Basic Education Requirement: You must possess a successfully completed full 4 Year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences such as biochemistry and appropriate to the work of this position. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS (SPF): This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to – and essential for – satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Experience performing clinical research analyzing genetic changes in muscle and bone cells that occur after Spinal Cord Injury.
In addition to meeting the basic education requirement and Selective Placement Factor, you must also possess specialized experience as indicated below in order to qualify for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Research Health Science Specialist position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: experience in grants administration in areas of science, medical and healthcare fields, such experience must have involved professional judgment of a kind and level of difficulty and responsibility essential to successful performance; have knowledge of clinical research practices, principles and procedures to implement and follow clinical research protocols, and evaluate research results, able to add to the body of knowledge in this field they should have proficient scientific knowledge and expertise in the areas of spinal cord injury including the physiological, medical, clinical and societal consequences, and be experienced in the use of cell biology, biochemistry pertinent to muscle biology, bone disease and metabolism, and statistical analysis , or an associated skill set from a discipline targeted to achieve a specific research objective. experience using statistical analysis software packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS), database management programs and spreadsheet excel, prism), presentation software (e.g., power-point).
