In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications For GS-07: Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Participating in projects from design development through inspection and approval; 2) Participating in the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, and specifications; and 3) Assisting in the development of engineering project requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in B above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on: (1) Class Standing – You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) – You must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR (3) Honor Society Membership – You may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/). (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts and/or verification of class standing for further verification.)
OR
Combination of specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and have some graduate level education as described above, but less than the required one year.You must have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and have appropriate experience as a technician equivalent to grade GS-5 or higher. (Experience credited for grade GS-7 only on a month-for-month basis up to a maximum of 12 months). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Successful completed a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering. For GS-09: Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Preparing projects from design development through inspection and approval; 2) Preparing engineering drawings, plans, and specifications; and 3) Assisting in the development of engineering project requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Have successfully completed a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Claiming Superior Academic Achievement AND 1 year of appropriate professional experience.(NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts and/or verification of class standing for further verification.)
OR
Combination of specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and have at least one year of graduate education as described above, but less than the required two years. Compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Successfully completed a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering and completed and 1 year of appropriate professional experience. For GS-11: Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Assisting in the oversight of projects from design development through inspection and approval; 2) Reviewing engineering drawings, plans, and specifications; and 3) Assisting in the development of engineering project requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described above, but less than the required three years. Compute the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) For GS-12: Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Overseeing projects from design development through inspection and approval; 2) Conducting a thorough review of all engineering drawings, plans, specifications, standards, regulations, and other references pertaining to projects; and 3) Develop engineering project requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
