Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision: Demonstrate ability to perform as an Engineering Equipment Operator to include operating heavy equipment (such as tracked loader, tractor, dozer, loader, skid steer, front end loader, tracked excavator, boats over 26′, etc) to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on such projects such as maintenance, repair, and construction of levees and roads. Grade river banks and make fills on surfaces with rough features such as compact soils, curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and hilly forests; and push rock off river barges into dike lines or other fills. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability And Dependability Physical Efforts: Heavy physical effort is required to operate equipment and attachments. There is constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to manipulate controls. Extra effort is required to maintain balance of equipment operated, requiring greater perception, coordination and concentration. Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, frequently lifting, moving, and carrying materials and equipment up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all kinds of weather, often in an open driver’s seat or platform along the river bank, on slopes and grades, on flat land in swampy areas, and over water on river barges. Operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility to equipment overturning, including drowning, when working over water. Subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt and fumes from the motor and exhaust. A life jacket is worn at all times while on operating equipment from floating plant.
