Mero saiyan gulabiya ka phool appeared in Shri Vishwa Bharati Films’ socio-political drama Nayi Umar Ki Nayai Fasal (1966) produced and directed by R Chandra. The movie starred Tanuja, Rajeev and Ulhas.

This song appears earlier in the movie. Rajeev (Rajeev) and Saila (Tanuja) are students and have opposite opinions about students joining politics. These 2 students with their friends attend the intercollegiate youth festival in Delhi’s Talkatora Gardens. That evening when they are getting bored, 2 girls from their college perform this song.

The video opens with 2 girls in traditional clothes beginning to dance. They also begin to sing. Other girls are playing a couple of musical instruments. Rajeev is looking at Tanuja. When she realizes it, she looks at him and blushes.

The other guys and the dancers begin to tease the lead pair and Tanuja moves away from them. Rajeev is about to follow her. But, he stops midway. The music and dance raise to a crescendo and the song ends abruptly. The video also ends there.


This song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur and Minu Purushottam.

Cultural Influence

Some North Indian culture has influenced this song, to some extent. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable.
