Local Indy band Audiodacity is playing tonight at The Hi-Fi for the third round of semifinals, and word is, they’re coming with a brand new song.
For the last few weeks, we’ve been looking at some of the bands competing in this year’s Battle of the Bands. Twenty-four bands entered the competition, but only one band will walk away with the grand prize of $10,000 and a touring van. After tonight, there’s only one more round of semifinals held at The Hi-Fi until the finals at The Vogue on February 15th.
Other bands competing tonight for the third round of semis include Union Suit Rally, Moxxie, American Bombshell, Chives, and The Palace. We’ve covered a few of these bands already, and the competition is fierce. Now it’s time to see how Audiodacity stacks up.
Audiodacity is a local Indianapolis band that blends genres of funk, pop-rock, reggae, and hip hop into their unique (and almost always upbeat) sound. In their own words, Audiodacity reveals the long history its members have with one another.
“Each individual member of Audiodacity has been involved with music for the majority of their lives; however, they were all close friends long before forming a band was ever even an idea—some members have even known each other as early as elementary school. It is this camaraderie, this sense of brotherhood, that allows them pull 6 completely different musical backgrounds and influences into one cohesive and eclectic sound.”
Audiodacity released their debut EP, “Audiodacity: The EP” in 2015, followed up by their debut album, “On a Roll” in the same year. Their most recent release was “The Free EP”, which, as its title suggests, was released for free to attendees of Indianapolis’ Protect the Arts event in 2017.
Audiodacity consists of members Ben Jarvis (vocals, trumpet), Jason Ehizokhale (guitar, sax, backup vocals), Cody Herring (guitar, trumpet, backup vocals), Mike Sheldon (bass), and Adam Woodgett (drums, vocals).
On a Roll
“On a Roll” is the single from Audiodacity’s 2015 album of the same name. The song immediately throws you into a funky groove with a strong rhythm. The horns really pull their weight here, and the faint wah guitar that you can just make out in between their blares really ties it all together.
Jarvis’ vocals are also worth noting, as he really brings out the energy and passion with the delivery of every line. This one in particular is one of my favorites: “I’m hungry like a beast, don’t need a knife / Gonna sink my teeth into the beat when it’s just right”.
The musicianship, songwriting skill, and pure passion of Audiodacity shines through in “On a Roll”. It’s probably one of my favorite songs from them, and one that I think is really easy to fall in love with.
Overall, Audiodacity’s 2015 single, “On a Roll” is a more than solid funky track with a lot of passion. While it is one of their older songs, fans won’t have to wait any longer for new material from Audiodacity if they go to the Battle of the Bands at The Hi-Fi tonight. They announced last week on their Facebook page that they’d be debuting a brand new song for the competition.
Be sure to stop by The Hi-Fi tonight for the third round of the semifinals. The competition this week may get pretty close, and every vote matters. There are a lot of great bands playing tonight, and the two advancing bands could really be any of them.
