Khat likhde sanwariya – Asha Bhonsle – Lakshmi-Pyare – Asha Parekh | Aaye Din Bahar Ke (1966)

This is another of my favorite Asha2 songs. And if Asha Parekh is present in a movie, there will always be at least one dance performed by her.

Movie – Aaye Din Bahar Ke (1966)

Khat likhde sanwariya appeared in the Filmyug’s hit romrama Aaye Din Bahar Ke (1966), directed by Raghunath Jhalani and produced by J Om Prakash. The movie starred Asha Parekh, Dharmendra, Sulochana, Balraj Sahni, Rajinder Nath, etc.

Ravi (Dharmendra) is a college’s senior student and is on the lookout for private tuitions to help his poor mother Yamuna (Sulochana) in running the house. One day, he meets a junior student Kanchan (Asha Parekh) and his prank upsets her. Post the exchange of a couple of pranks, they fall in love with each other. Their parents also agree to get them married. However, circumstances reveal that Yamuna was an unwed mother and the engagement is called off. Ravi gets upset and leaves his mother alone.

Soon, he is found by Justice Shukla (Balraj Sahni). That the judge is his father is not known by Ravi. But, the older man realizes the same at the first meeting. The judge takes Ravi back to his home and they receive the news that Yamuna drowned in the river the moment he left her. However, the family is, soon, reunited.

But, Ravi thinks Kanchan has married someone else. At the same time, Kanchan has come to the same city as Ravi and is being taken care of by the nurse Rachna (Nazima). Kanchan joins the hospital where Rachna works as a nurse. Ravi’s parents try to convince him to get married to someone else since Kanchan had married someone else. Rachna is assigned the task of taking care of an ill Yamuna. Ravi mistakes Rachna to be the girl, who had come to see him for marriage and tries to convince her against it. Rachna falls in love with him and the complication begins.

Rachna informs her friend Kanchan that she is in love with Ravi, without knowing his name. Rachna tries to set up a meeting between Kanchan and Ravi, without knowing their past. Once day, Kanchan is getting ready for a dance performance at their hospital and Rachna invites Ravi to meet her friend. The audience has these thoughts – what will happen when they see each other? But, Ravi is in a hurry and leaves in a hurry. Kanchan performs this song during the hospital event.

Song – Khat likhde sanwariya

The song Khat likhde sanwariya was penned by Anand Bakshi and the tune was composed by Lakshmi-Pyare.

The girl requests the postman to write a letter to her beloved, who has gone abroad.

Video – Khat likhde sanwariya

Director of Photography is V Babasaheb. Dance choreography is by Suresh Bhatt-Satyanarayan.

The video opens with a group of female dancers beginning to dance to the music, which has already begun. The postman comes to the place and all the dancers run to him in pairs to take their letters. Asha Parekh runs into the stage and pleads with the postman to give her the letter that has come for her. Asha Parekh begins to dance. Her dance is so graceful. There is no letter for her. She is disappointed. She makes the postman sit on a seat below a tree. Soon, the song rises to a crescendo and ends abruptly. The video also ends there.

The playback of Khat likhde sanwariya was sung by Asha Bhonsle for Asha Parekh. Other dancers are also present performing the song.

Cultural Influence

There is not much cultural influence on this typically filmi song. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
