Qualification Summary
Applicants must meet the Basic Requirement AND Minimum qualifications for each grade they wish to be considered for.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
1. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus OR
2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in 1. above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, applicants must also meet the minimum qualifications to be considered:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-07: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-5, in the Federal Service, OR 1 year of graduate-level education OR superior academic achievement (S.A.A.).
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Specialized experience includes applying standard practices and techniques to the solicitation and collection of economic information or data for surveys or projects, analyzing or interpreting economic or statistical information in order to identify and resolve discrepancies, and preparing reports based on collected information.
Applicants may also qualify at the GS-07 level by substituting education for experience. Applicants must possess one (1) full year of graduate level education or S.A.A.
S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership Class standing – Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
Grade-point average (G.P.A.) – Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society – Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-09: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-07, in the Federal Service, OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree OR master’s or equivalent graduate.
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Specialized experience applying economic principles, standard practices and techniques to the solicitation and collection of economic data or information for surveys/projects in accordance with requirements; analyzing and interpreting economic information to recognize variances and discrepancies; and preparing reports based on collected information and recommending improvements.
Applicants may also qualify at the GS-09 level by substituting education for experience. Applicants must possess 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree OR master’s or equivalent graduate.
Education must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this position.
