Kisne chilmanse mara nazara mujhe appeared in Alankar Chitra’s Baat Ek Raat Ki (A Tale of One Night), a 1962 thriller directed by Shankar Mukherjee. The movie starred Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, Chandrashekhar, Asit Sen, etc.

Neela (Waheeda Rehman) is arrested for murder. Thinking she did it, she confesses. Then, the well-known lawyer Rajeshwar (Dev Anand) takes up her case. Though she accepts her guilt; when he tries to investigate the case, he realizes that there is a lot to it than meets the eye. Why would Neela be present at the scene of the crime, in the first place? To complicate matters, Neela has lost her memory.

When the case comes to the court, the guard of Neela’s bungalow Ramu (Asit Sen) behaves suspiciously and Rajeshwar’s assistant CID (Johnny Walker) takes over the job of finding the truth from him. CID and his girlfriend Julie (Sabita Chatterjee) disguise themselves and perform this song in front of Ramu and his friends. Ramu and his friends are having the drug – bhang.

The music of Kisne chilmanse mara nazara mujhe was composed by Sachin Dev Burman and the lyrics were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

The video opens with Sabita Chatterjee running toward a group of male actors. The music has already begun. Johnny Walker begins to sing the song. Soon, the group of male actors begins to dance with Johnny Walker and he gestures Sabita Chatterjee to leave. Soon the song peters out and the video also ends as Johnny Walker falls down apparently exhausted.


Kisne chilmanse mara nazara mujhe was sung by Manna Dey for Johnny Walker. Sabita Chatterjee performs the dance. Asit Sen and others look on.

Cultural Influence

This typically filmi song has a Sufi-qawwali kind of influence on it. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for Johnny Walker’s antics.
