Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) Board Eligibility or Certification (or foreign equivalent) in Geriatric Medicine. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: demonstrate a record of teaching, mentoring and a commitment to scholarly output. demonstrate the ability to oversee clinical programs in Geriatrics and a record of directing quality improvement programs or other scholarly clinical activities in Geriatrics, as well as the ability to provide high-quality geriatric care to Veterans in various treatment settings. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: This position will require walking, standing or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10-12 hours per day. Prolonged periods of sitting while performing procedures, prolonged use of hands in delivery of clinical treatment and in operating computer mouse and keyboard. In addition, the incumbent will need to bend, lift and turn.
