Today is Singer Shabbir Kumar’s birthday. Here’s his story. Shabbir Kumar began his career in Baroda and shot to fame after being picked up by Melody Makers, a leading orchestra in India. Then, he promoted Ek Shaam Rafi Ke Naam with other fans of Mohammad Rafi Sahab to offer tribute to the legend. Shabbir Kumar debuted with Composer Usha Khanna’s Tajurba (1981). His major break came with Director Manmohan Desai and the music duo Lakshmi-Pyare’s Coolie (1983) due to the death of Mohammad Rafi in 1980, whose songs were supposed to be sung by the legend. The rest is history. And let me tell you that he is also my favorite singer of his time because of the resemblance of his voice to Mohammad Rafi Sahab. Today, we will look at some of Shabbir Kumar’s solos.
