Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon – Mukesh – Khayyam – Amitabh Bachchan | Kabhie Kabhie (1976)

This is one of Mukesh’s songs that I love because of the depth in the lyrics. I have written a few poems myself, though I don’t have the distinction of an acclaimed poet.

Movie – Kabhie Kabhie (1976)

Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon appeared in the romrama Kabhie Kabhie (1976) produced and directed by Yash Chopra. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Rakhee, Waheeda Rahman, Simi Garewal, Parikshit Sahni, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, etc.

Amit Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan) is a college student and a poet. When he sings one of his poems at a college gathering, another student Pooja (Rakhee) loves the poem. This is that song.

Song – Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon

The music of Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon was composed by Khayyam and the lyrics are by Sahir Ludhyanvi.

The singer talks about the impermanence of his life as a poet. Deeper meaning can pertain to the singer’s life journey, too.

Video – Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon

Cinematography is by Romesh Bhalla-Kay Gee.

The video begins with Amitabh Bachchan beginning the song at a mike. The music has also begun in the background. Rakhee is in the audience and seems to be visibly impressed. Soon, the song peters out and the video ends as he gets a standing ovation.

Mukesh had given the playback of Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon and Amitabh Bachchan lip-synchs to the song. Rakhee and other actors look on.

Cultural Influence

This is a typical filmi song set in a college auditorium. The deeper meaning of the song is really beautiful. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
