Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Interior Designer (1008): A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcript with your application package or you will be rated ineligible. OR B. Exam: Passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your certificate with your application package or you will be rated ineligible. OR C. Experience: Specialized experience that required the performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment; Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings; Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public; Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context; and/or Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing interior design technical and/or administrative policies; reviewing interior design aspects for packages and projects; preparing reports, technical calculations, design analyses, drawings, and color boards; and coordinating with personnel to complete assigned projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
