Soundtrack Roundup: The Umbrella Academy

The second season of “The Umbrella Academy” began filming in June this year after a successful first season. If you haven’t yet checked out the first season, then perhaps this list of awesome tracks from its soundtrack will convince you that it’s worth looking into.

For those who haven’t yet seen it, “The Umbrella Academy” is an American superhero television series based on the comic books of the same name. The original comics, written by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba were published by Dark Horse Comics.

The story follows the lives of seven super-powered children adopted by billionaire who wants to train them to save the world. During their teenage years, the family disbands, only to come together again later in life when their adopted father has died. They work together to solve the mysterious circumstances following their father’s death, but struggle to work together with their divergent personalities and abilities.

The Umbrella Academy Soundtrack

The soundtrack to “The Umbrella Academy”, Season 1 features a selection of great songs that, upon first impression, don’t seem as if they’d go together naturally. But “The Umbrella Academy” shows that, given the right story and the right context, songs like They Might Be Giants’ “Istanbul” can coexist on the same soundtrack as Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film)”, and Heart’s “Barracuda”. Other musical highlights include Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Lost Woman” by The Yardbirds, and The Doors’ “Soul Kitchen”.

Along with a collection of popular music, “The Umbrella Academy” also includes an original soundtrack composed by Jeff Russo, the composer behind the music of shows like “Fargo”, “Star Trek: Discovery”, and “Altered Carbon”. You can find the original soundtrack on Spotify.
