Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Protective Equipment Mechanic/Inspector without more than normal supervision. The duties include testing of a variety of life support systems and safety equipment, operating test equipment, and performing maintenance. Visually check safety equipment for damage, determine appropriate corrective action, repair or disposition. Provide warehouse support, operate a forklift to load and unload protective equipment from tractor trailers. Utilize a computer to assign bar codes, issue documents, and monitor maintenance recall. Follow oral and written instructions and apply safety standards. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting Physical Effort: Employee performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring him/her to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. He/she frequently lifts and carries cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighting up to forty pounds. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items. Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. The individual may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. There is a slight danger of contact dermatitis involved with handling used protective and safety equipment. The individual will occasionally be required to wear respiratory protective equipment.
