Qualification Summary
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires special qualifications that have been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as screen out elements. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified: Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a valid, state driver’s license. Specialized experience: In addition to the Selective Placement Factors, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. This experience must also be documented in your resume.In addition to the time-in-grade and selective factor requirements, to qualify at the GS-05 level you must meet one of the following:Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of a Park Ranger.Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: working in as a park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have 4-year course study above high school leading to a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hoursof related course work. OR Combination of graduate education and experience: Applicants may also use an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Transcripts must be provided with your application packet.In addition to the time-in-grade and selective factor requirements, to qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet one of the following:Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of a Park Ranger.Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work.Specialized experience is further defined as management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of recreation areas or similar operations; reviewing and applying recreational policy, regulatory compliance and application related to inspection and processing of permits, compliance monitoring, and completing a variety of recreation related projects; developing and/or implementing travel management planning; evaluating land or water areas for their recreation and related potential use on natural resource programs; performing road traffic boundary and/or hunting patrol in front and back country areas; facilitating and organizing work projects for employees and volunteers; and speaking to groups. OR Education: To qualify based on education you must have 18 semester hours of graduate-level education in a directly related field OR Combination of graduate education and experience: Applicants may also use an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above. Only graduate level education in excess of 9 semester hours of may be combined with experience.
