Today, I will introduce you to some songs from Nasir Hussain’s 1960s Bollywood productions. But, first let me tell you about a very important aspect of his works – his favorite cast and crew members. Nasir Sahab’s first favorite was his mentor Filmistan Studios’ Sashadhar Mukherjee, for whom he wrote and directed his earlier movies. Sashadhar’s brother Subodh Mukherjee directed 2 of Nasir Sahab’s directions – Munimji (1955) and Paying Guest (1957), both having Dev Anand as the main lead and S D Burman as the music composer. Later, Nasir Sahab cast Dev Anand as the lead in his own first production Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961).

Pran was Nasir Sahab’s favorite villain in Paying Guest (1961), Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Ziddi (1964) and Love in Tokyo (1966). Nasir Sahab cast his mentor Sashadhar Mukherjee’s son Joy Mukherjee in his production Phir Wahi Dil Laya Hoon (1963). Majrooh Sultanpuri Sahab wrote the lyrics for the director’s 10 productions after working with him in Paying Guest (1961). Shammi Kapoor was also cast in his movies, having worked in his early hits – Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957) and Dil Deke Dekho (1959) and later in Teesri Manzil (1966). Actor Rajindernath was a common fixture in several of his earlier productions like Dil Deke Dekho (1959), Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), Zabardast (1985) and Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981).

Asha Parekh has worked the longest in his movies beginning from Dil Deke Dekho (1959) through Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969) till Caravan (1971). She even did a cameo in Manzil Manzil (1984) after there was a gap of 13 years. R D Burman had also been a regular with the director and they worked together in 9 movies beginning from Teesri Manzil (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Pyar Ka Mausam (1969), Caravan (1971), Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973), Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977), Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981), Manzil Manzil (1984) and Zabardast (1985)
