NOTE: This is a Standing Register (Open Continuous) announcement. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THE INCUMBENT TO POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A CHLOROFLUOROCARBON CHEMICALS (CFC) TYPE UNIVERSAL AS REQUIRED BY SECTION 608 OF THE CLEAN AIR ACT, 1990 EPA MANDATORY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION BY NOVEMBER 14, 1994.
NOTE: YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF THE CERTIFICATION TO YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE FOR VERIFICATION. FAILURE TO INCLUDE A COPY OF THE CERTIFICATION WILL RESULT IN A RATING OF INELIGIBLE. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic duties. I am skilled in recognizing the cause of faulty equipment, or making repairs on large INDUSTRIAL systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, or circulating. I can recognize and determine the best method for correcting malfunctions, and make repairs to a variety of air conditioning and cooling unit systems. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: Frequently lifts, positions, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Items weighing to exceed 75 pounds are normally lifted by more than one person, hoisted by means of mechanical devices. Works on scaffolds and ladders, in hard to reach places. Requires considerable standing on concrete floors, stooping, bending and working in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside, occasionally outside, and frequently in cramped and awkward positions. Shop area is usually adequately lighted and ventilated. Work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gases. Hearing protective devices and other protective devices and safety equipment must be worn at all times of exposure to the hazardous condition. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria for compensation by environmental or hazard pay.
