Movie – Katilon Ke Katil (1981)
O meri chorni o meri morni appeared in 1981 hit Kapleshwar Films’ Katilon Ke Katil (Killer of Murderers) directed by Arjun and Anil Hingorani and produced by Arjun Hingorani. The movie starred Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman, Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, late Amjad Khan, late Nirupa Roy, late Pradeep Kumar, Shakti Kapoor, late Mukri, Kalpana Iyer, etc. It had hit music and was also known for a character called Reecha, whose conception is similar to Yeti.
A rich man (Pradeep Kumar) has a small divine chariot with Lord Krishna and Arjuna, made up of gold studded with diamonds. The criminal Black Cobra (Amjad Khan) wants that for himself. He kills the rich man and in the confusion his wife Radha (Nirupa Roy) gets separated from her sons Ajit and Munna. Ajit watches his father being killed by Black Cobra and that gives him a big shock. When he cannot remember his past, he is adopted by a Muslim woman and named Badshah. Munna is adopted by a petty thief (Mukri).
Years later both the kids have grown up into young men. Badshah (Dharmendra) fights for the downtrodden. Munna (Rishi Kapoor) has become a petty thief like his adopted father. One day, Munna sets his eyes on the precious necklace worn by a lady staying at a hotel. But, he is not the only one besotted by the necklace. Another petty thief, this time a female (Tina Munim) with a monkey doing all the work, is attracted to it and steals it. He tricks her into losing the necklace. When she comes to know about his tricking her, she threatens revenge. But, Munna has already fallen in love with her.
On the other hand, Badshah falls in love with a Qawali Singer Jameela Banu (Zeenat Aman). Jameela shows attitude and Badshah challenges that he would hug her in 48 hours. He fulfills his desire albeit disguised as another Qawwal, after he wins a Qawali competition with her. The song presents a one-sided view-point and depicts only the male version. The female has to bow down because she is a female. I don’t understand why a girl should not show attitude to a stranger. Why is attitude misinterpreted as arrogance? If a girl accepts the courtship of an unknown person, at first sight, she is often seen as a slut. On the other hand, the girl’s attitude makes a man desire her more and he wants to control her. That a girl cannot take care of herself in a rape situation is cited as the reason for a man being in her life. But, can’t girls take care of themselves? In most situations, they can. That is why martial arts training is important for girls.
Coming back to Munna, Munna reaches his biological mother Radha due to a small misunderstanding. I am not elaborating the scene because it is worth watching first hand. I will just say that Black Cobra tries to plant someone as Munna (Ravi Kumar) in Radha’s home and the real Munna lands there, instead. A missing person’s newspaper ad brings Badshah also to his mother. The unknown female thief (Tina Munim) also lands there as Munna’s wife. Radha accepts her as her DIL. When asked why she has followed him there, the girl replies that she had come to avenge herself. Munna tries to take advantage of the situation and sings this song.

Video – O meri chorni o meri morni
Cinematography is by Kishore Rege.
The video opens with Rishi Kapoor expressing his intention of seducing Tina Munim. She tells him to stay away from her. He begins to sing this song asking her to love him. She replies that once she agrees to his seduction and the act is done, he will leave her. How could she trust him?
Rishi Kapoor imagines a couple of dream sequences. Tina Munim looks awkward while dancing. Rishi Kapoor takes the cake for graceful masculine style of dancing. Back to reality, Tina Munim tactfully pushes Rishi Kapoor inside the washroom and locks the door from the outside.
The playback of O meri chorni o meri morni was sung by Mohammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar while the onscreen performances were by Rishi Kapoor and Tina Munim.
Rishi Kapoor tries to seduce Tina Munim. But, she doesn’t let him. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
