Composer Khayyam expired yesterday at 92. His mortal remains are being consigned to the earth, today. At the beginning of my career, I had contacted him for an interview. He told me to share my phone number and that he would call me back. He never did. If I had called him again and again, it would have amounted to pestering, which I don’t like. So, I left it at that. Khayyam Sahab, I do regret that I could not meet you. But, I will cherish the conversation I had with you on that day.
Bollywood and Composer Khayyam
Some of my favorite Bollywood songs composed by him are:

Woh subaha kabhi toh aayegi… Phir Subha Hogi (1958)
Har kali kali ke lab par… Lala Rukh (1958)
Jane kya dhoondhti rehti hai… Shola Aur Shabnam (1961)
Jeet hi lenge baazi hum tum… Shola Aur Shabnam (1961)
Parbatonke pedon pe… Shagoon (1964)
Humse hoti mohobbat jo tumko… Mohabbat Isko Kahete Hain (1965)
Baharon mera jeevan bhi sawaro… Aakhri Khat (1966)
