Jefferson Blvd. And even though the Embassy is designed to seat more than 2700 people, the tickets for the show have already gone on sale. ABBA: The Concert and the allure of ABBA

Billed as “the most authentic ABBA tribute show in the world.” The accolade might be shocking to those who were unaware that more than one ABBA tribute band existed. Also known as ABBA: The Hits, or ABBA: The Music, ABBA: The Concert seeks to pay homage to one of the best-selling pop and rock bands of all time.

The group’s 2019-2020 tour dates began Aug. 7 in Salisbury, Massachusetts.

The popularity of the tribute band speaks volumes about that of ABBA. The group formed in Stockholm in 1972. By the mid-1970s, the band had begun amassing hits such as “Dancing Queen” which became a No.1 hit 44 years ago this week. Other songs like “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (a Man After Midnight),” “Fernando,” SOS,” and others all catapulted the Scandinavian quartet to household name status.

The sound of ABBA is disco with a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility. This is easily heard in a song like “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.” That plus the aesthetic appeal of the band’s members made ABBA irresistible to some audiences.

ABBA:The Concert will play with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as part of the Philharmonic Pops series, in which popular music is given a symphonic treatment. No word yet on the musical logistics, but since ABBA: The Concert is supposed to be a fun, sing-a-long worthy experience, attendees are almost guaranteed a good time.

Tickets for the show range from $22.50 to $80.00, which is quite affordable considering the price of some retro shows. Fans of ABBA should plan on seeing ABBA: The Concert. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit:
