Qualification Summary
In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Basic Requirement: Biological Scientist, GS-0401:Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.-OR-Combination of education and experience — with courses equivalent to a major described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-07 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05. Examples include: Performing basic duties and receiving training pertaining to forest recreation program; assisting higher grade employees or working as a team member in accomplishing selected portions of projects which include collecting field data on minerals, lands, trails and special uses for preparation of management plans; and assisting in writing reports of technical nature in support of natural resource planning. OR Superior Academic Achievement: To qualify based on superior academic achievement, you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution AND must meet certain GPA requirements. For more details click: Superior Academic Achievement OR 1 year of pregressively higher level graduate education (coursework must be directly related to the position being filled) OR combination of graduate level education and specialized experience For the GS-09 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07. Examples of specialized experience are: : Participating in the drafting of annual work action plans for carrying out recreation management decisions; working alongside of senior members to develop potential recreational sites or areas for additional recreation use and planned development; and assisting with other resource management activities by analyzing the impact of those sources on the recreation program. OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master’s Degree (coursework must be directly related to position being filled); OR combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education beyond 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. To receive consideration for this position, you must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements with 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
