Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience in cartography or in a related field such as photogrammetry or geodesy, where the work required similar knowledge and skills. You qualify for the grade 07 if you possess 52 weeks of specialized experience that equipped you with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the grade 06. In addition to the specialized experience definition above, applicants must document experience in the review of map source materials ensuring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; the use of sophisticated interactive software to update spatial digital databases; exercising judgment to carry out functions such as digitizing, evaluating and organizing data; digitizing map data for all types of topographic, hydrographic, and transportation features shown on a variety ofmap types.Education Substitution: Graduate education or internship meets the specialized experience requirement only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education (26 quarters or 18 semester hours) meets the specialized experience requirement.
Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
