Qualification Summary
Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student’ social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for the GS-11 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is: Writing press statements, media advisories, press releases, and informational materials for dissemination through a variety of media.
Assisting in writing executive level speeches and presentations, drafting business and industry talking points, and articles of journalistic quality.
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with local and national media. or
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicants may qualify based on a combination of specialized experience and education. Experience and successfully-completed education at the appropriate level (see above) may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-11. To qualify for the GS-12 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal Service. For this position, in addition to GS-11 requirements (above), specialized experience is: Writing press statements, media advisories, press releases, and informational materials for dissemination through a variety of media.
Writing executive level speeches and presentations, drafting business and industry talking points, and articles of journalistic quality.
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with local and national media.
Develop promotional campaigns to elevate minority business development issues to achieve the highest levels of public awareness. Education cannot be substituted for experience at this level
