Aditya Chopra rejected several verses of Anand Bakshi, before zeroing on these songs including Mere khwabon mein jo aaye and they broke the popularity records!
Movie – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)
This song, Mere khwabon mein jo aaye, was featured in Yash-Raj Films’ super duper hit Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), produced by Yash Chopra and directed by the debutante Aditya Chopra. The movie starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, etc.
The movie starts with Londoner Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri), yearns to return to his native place Punjab. He lives with his wife Lajwanti or Lajjo (Farida Jalal) and daughters Simran (Kajol) and Chutki (Pooja Ruparel). Simran is a budding poet and fantasizes about a boy and sings this song for him.
Song – Mere khwabon mein jo aaye
Anand Bakshi and Jatin-Lalit penned the lyrics and composed the tune Mere khwabon mein jo aaye, respectively.
The girl is looking for the man of her dreams and challenges him to come in front of her.
Video – Mere khwabon mein jo aaye
The cinematography is by Manmohan Singh. Saroj Khan-Farah Khan is credited with the dance choreography.
The video begins with Shah Rukh Khan playing Rugby with some other guys. The music has already begun. As he reaches the goalpost and gets one up on the other team, Kajol begins to sing this song in her room. She is dancing with only a towel wrapped around her. Shah Rukh Khan wins a Go-cart race and runs alongside a plane, which takes off.
Kajol has changed into a pair of jeans and a shirt with a jacket and scarf. Shah Rukh Khan jumps into a swimming pool. Farida Jalal, who plays her mother, also dances with her. I love the steps Kajol has been given as she moves around the congested house so gracefully. Tired with Kajol’s antics, Farida Jalal relaxes on the sofa and Kajol places her head on her lap.
Shah Rukh Khan is a flirt. Next, Kajol dances in the rain, wearing a short dress. Farida Jalal comes out to take off the clothes left for drying on the clothesline and leaves the younger actor alone in the rain. Kajol has a lot of fun jumping in the rain. Honestly, I find her dress was too short for my liking. The song ends abruptly and the video also ends there.
Lata Mangeshkar has sung this song for Kajol. Farida Jalal also joins the dance for some time. Shah Rukh Khan and others are also present in the video.
The typically filmi song is too idealistic. Nobody can find a person being depicted in the song. Fantasizers beware! This is a disappointment alert. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
