Singer Manhar Udhas’ Birthday

Today is Singer Manhar Udhas’ birthday. He has sung several songs for Bollywood and Gujarati movies. Manhar Udhas is the elder brother of singers Pankaj and Nirmal Udhas. Armed with a mechanical engineering degree, he shifted to Mumbai looking for a job in the late 1960s. Manhar has been a music enthusiast since childhood. His brother-in-law introduced him to the Music Duo Kalyanji-Anandji. Manharji would hang around the music duo to help them with song recordings.

It so happened that once Singer Mukeshji was unavailable and Manhar Udhas was asked to sing in the senior singer’s place until the former was available to redo the song. But then, fate plays in weird ways. When Mukeshji heard it, he liked the way the song was sung. He also said that the song had been sung well and need not be rerecorded. The song was the hit Aapse hum to bichde hue… from Vishwas (1969). It gave a boost to his new career.
