Qualification Summary
To qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 level, which includes practical knowledge of standard child development/care-giving procedures, requiring extended training, perform a wide variety of duties in a child development environment, carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children, deal with a range of problems common to this type of environment; knowledge of the health, safety, sanitation requirements for working with young children; knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. OR
EDUCATION: Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of health/safety/sanitation for working with young children; knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
2. Ability to communicate orally using tact and courtesy when working with children, parents and other caregivers.
3. Ability to deal with a range of problems common to a child development environment.
4. Skill in carrying out plans and activities to enhance the development of children.
5. Ability to lead others in work assignments and manage a classroom of young children. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
