Qualification Summary
Minimum Qualifications Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Basic Educational Requirements (2) Specialized Experience, AND (3) Selective Placement Factor.
(1) Basic Educational Requirements:
In addition to the specialized experience requirements for this position, applicants must meet the Educational Requirements described below:
A. Degree: A bachelor’s or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene; or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
B. Combination of education and experience – at least 12 semester hours of course work in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester as specified in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts or other verification to verify that you meet the educational requirement.
(2) Specialized Experience:
Applicants MUST meet all three (3) specialized experience and your experience MUST be clearly written in your resume.
To qualify for the GS-15, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is that which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: (1) Serves as a technical expert on Industrial Hygiene exposure assessment programs consistent with the AIHA exposure assessment model; (2) Identifies, evaluates, and mitigates previously unrecognized and unique exposure hazards new to the science of industrial hygiene; and (3) Chairs Department-wide industrial hygiene committees.
(3) Selective Placement Factor:
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). All applicants must possess a valid/current Board Certification in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. You MUST submit a copy of your certification in order to be considered. Failure to submit a copy of your certification will result in an “ineligible” rating.
