Qualification Summary
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet one of the qualification requirements listed below- please be sure to include this information in your resume.To qualify for the GS-06 grade level, you must satisfy one of the requirements described below: 1) Specialized Experience: You must show that you have one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-05). Examples: work experience which includes dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities and selecting alternative resources while performing dispatch operations duties independently.2) Education Requirement: You must have one year (18 semester hours) of graduate level college education in a field directly related to range technician fire work such as a major study in forestry, fire science or a field directly related to this position.3) Combining Experience and Education: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position by combining specialized experience and appropriate graduate education according to the following formula: (a) your total months of full time specialized experience as a percentage of a 12 month total; PLUS (b) your total number of qualifying graduate semester or quarter hours as a percentage of one year of graduate study leading to a Master’s Degree. The total of the two percentages must equal at least 100 percent.To qualify for the GS-07 grade level, you must satisfy one of the requirements described below: 1) Specialized Experience: You must show that you have one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level (GS-06). Examples: performing dispatch and dispatch office functions related to wildland fire suppression activities which includes providing guidance and direction to subordinate dispatchers. 2) Education Requirement: You must have one year (18 semseter hours) of graduate level college education in a field directly related to range technician fire work such as a major study in forestry, fire science or a field directly related to this position. 3) Combining Experience and Education: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position by combining specialized experience and appropriate graduate education according to the following formula: (a) your total months of full time specialized experience as a percentage of a 12 month total; PLUS (b) your total number of qualifying graduate semester or quarter hours as a percentage of one year of graduate study leading to a Master’s Degree. The total of the two percentages must equal at least 100 percent.Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element.-You must have 90 days of wildland firefighting experience. Wildland fire experience is defined as any non-structure fire that occurs in the wildland. Wildland firefighting experience is gained through work on the wildland fire line in containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire. This experience can be met by serving in a temporary, seasonal or equivalent private sector fire position. Periods of wildland firefighting experience gained through militia and rural fire departments can also be credited.You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
