You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Powered Support Systems Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. Perform maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline engines, generators, alternators including engine tune ups, repair of cooling systems and shutter controls, etc. In the performance of these duties, use standard test equipment and tools, technical manuals, blueprints, schematic wiring diagrams and mechanic hand tools. Able to use welders to perform incidental preheating, brazing and flame-cutting. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Physical Conditions: Work involves frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, standing and arm movement. Work is sometimes performed in cramped or awkward positions Moderate effort is exerted in operating equipment controls. May lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Working environment is dirty, noisy, smoky, dusty, greasy, hot and drafty. There is a potential of cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shock, skin irritation, eye damage, and broken bones. Hazards are lessened through the use of safety shoes, shields, goggles, safety clothing and car plugs. Hazards are common to the occupations and, as such, are evaluated in relation to cited standards. May require use of protective clothing or equipment as authorized by the WSMR Safety Office.
