Movie – Saathi (1968):

Yeh kaun aaya was featured in the Venus Pictures’ C V Sridhar-directed Saathi (1968). S Krishnamurthy and T Govindarajan produced the movie, starring Rajendra Kumar, Vaijayantimala, Simi Garewal, Pahari Sanyal, David, Veena, Sanjeev Kumar, Ram Mohan, Shashi Kapoor, Nanda, Shabnam, D K Sapru, Pratima Devi, etc. This movie was the remake of the Tamil Palum Pazhamum (1961).

Ravi (Rajendra Kumar) returns from abroad, having completed his medical education and takes up a position as chief surgeon in a hospital. This song is sung by his mentor’s (Pahari Sanyal) daughter Rajni (Simi Garewal), during the evening party thrown in honor of Ravi’s returning home.

Song – Yeh kaun aaya:

Majrooh Sultanpuri Sahab penned the lyrics of Yeh kaun aaya and Naushad Sahab composed the tune.

The girl sings, “Who is this new person? Due to his coming, the get-together has lit up, brightly.”

Video- Yeh kaun aaya:

The cinematography is by Marcus Bartley.

The video begins with Simi Garewal playing the piano and beginning the music. Rajendra Kumar inquires about the requirements of the guests and stops to listen to the song. Simi Garewal begins to sing, as she plays the piano.

She gets up and continues to sing, moving about the party area. Pahari Sanyal and Veena (who plays Simi Garewal’s mother in the movie) look on indulgently at Simi Garewal. Simi Garewal is looking at Rajendra Kumar. But, his attention is among the guests.

When Rajendra Kumar passes Simi Garewal, he pinches her nose. He is treating her like a child. But, she appears to be in love with him. The song peters out and the video also ends when she lifts her hands in prayer.

Lata Mangeshkar had sung this song for Simi Garewal. Rajendra Kumar and others look on.

Cultural Influence:

This is a typical filmi party song, showing how much the character played by Simi Garewal is in love with the character played by Rajendra Kumar. But, he treats her like a child. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
