Noted Alternative Musician Cass McCombs Plays Indy’s Hi-Fi on March 15th
It might not be St. Patrick’s Day quite yet, but don’t let the lack of green beer lower your spirits. Instead, why not come down to Indy’s famous Hi-Fi for some drinks and a show? Especially since on the 15th, Cass McCombs comes to perform!
Cass McCombs hails from Concord, California.
A veteran of numerous bands since the 1990s, Cass McCombs has a long history in the music business. Of course, everyone starts small and McCombs started his own career with an EP released on a small Baltimore label, Not the Way E.P.. However, he attracted the interest of DJ John Peel who invited him to record a song for his Peel Sessions. Piggybacking off of that, McCombs released his first LP, A, in 2003. In 2009, he released the LP Catacombs which merited a spot on Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums list for that year. He followed up Catacombs with several more releases, most recently Mangy Love in 2016. He also has a new album, Tip of the Sphere, scheduled for release later this year.
He has also toured with Modest Mouse, Ariel Pink, and even John Cale. Other artists he has toured with include Cat Power, the Decemberists, Thurston Moore, and Arcade Fire.
In terms of genre, Cass McCombs plays a heady mixture of folk, psychedelic, punk, and alt-country. In practice, expect to hear thrumming bass lines with a hazy guitar overlay. Like many alternative artists today, he has a fondness for gentle, soft-echo vocals. But, true to his country tastes, he punctuates them with a soulful howl. Not exactly Jimmie Rogers, but certainly county.
On the whole, his music is easygoing and introspective, but not boring or naval-gazing. Perfect for a low-key night out.
So, as always. The venue is the Hi-Fi, Door’s at 8:00.
See you there!
