Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing advisory services and technical support on Information Technology security projects or operations AND conducting strategic threat and vulnerability assessments. Additionally, your experience demonstrates each of the four competencies:
1) Attention to Detail – Providing advice to users; recommending solutions for problems; or ensuring troubleshooting of Information Technology problems are complete, free of error, and uses sound technical judgment in researching, choosing, interpreting, modifying, and applying guidelines for adaptation to specific problems or issues.
2) Customer Service – Delivering Information Technology support to end users, teams, and identifying problems with customer requests in order to achieve the desired product or service and course of action to take; and providing customer training on security policies and procedures.
3) Oral Communication – Presenting technical information to internal and subordinate organizations in order to coordinate security requirements and achieve understanding of desired specification or solutions to problems.
4) Problem Solving – Diagnosis of issues for Information Technology systems security requirements, or providing advice, evaluating and/or recommending IT security tools to protect information assets, or developing technical procedures for safeguarding, accounting for and control of equipment and material. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
