Composer Sandesh Shandilya’s Birthday

Today is Composer Sandesh Shandilya’s birthday. He is mostly known for his works in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Chameli (2004), Socha Na Tha (2004), etc. Sandeshji trained under the noted Sarangi player, Ustad Sultan Khan. I met Sandeshji at least twice for interviews with a couple of print magazines. On the first meeting itself, I asked him if he was a Brahmin with Shandilya Gothra. I wondered why he was shocked at my question. I, myself, am a Brahmin with Vashishta Gothra and the traditional values have been instilled in me. Since then, I have been looking up to him as an elder brother. He reminds me of my cousin brother, who used to say impossible things to us, sisters, as children and we would believe them!
