Qualification Summary
Specialized Experience Requirements: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement – please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.
For GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-05 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as ability to deal with people from differing backgrounds and behavioral patterns and knowledge of requirements and practices of outdoor recreation planning or natural resource utilizing and conservation.
For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-07 in the federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as, but not limited to: experience collecting and interpreting recreation user data and monitoring recreation sites for required maintenance; coordinating with internal and external customers on policy relating to the Recreation and Wilderness programs; providing technical advice for the Recreation and Wilderness programs by participating on interdisciplinary teams completing required NEPA.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Substitution of Education for the Specialized Experience Requirement: For GS-07: One full year of graduate level education OR superior academic achievement is based on one of the following: (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society member. For GS-09: 2 full years (36 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, LL.B. or J.D. if related, or master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree in an area(s) such as those listed above in Basic Education Requirement.
Graduate Education with a major study in outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation. Applicants who qualify on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation.
Education and experience may be combined to meet the specialized experience requirement.
SELECTIVE FACTOR(S): Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified.
Selective Placement Factor 1: The Applicant must possess the skills needed to operate all terrain vehicles or dune buggies in a sand dune environment. Your experience MUST be detailed in your resume.
