You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.Education -A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Candidatesmust have anactive, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.)
ANDSpecialized Experience: For the GS-10, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Conducting patient/resident assessment; ANDDeveloping and carrying out nursing care plans; ANDMedication administration (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical, rectal, intravenous, etc.); ANDCommunicating patient/resident condition and changes to patient/resident, nursing personnel, physicians, and family members.
OR Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field (e.g., chemistry, biology, microbiology). Degrees from Foreign Nursing Schools: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-10, you must have been at the GS-09 level for 52 weeksTime After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
Physical Requirements: Work requires considerable standing, walking, transferring, bending and lifting in helping residents in and out of bed, changing their positions. Utilization of appropriate body mechanics is mandatory. Required to lift up to 50 pounds.SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.
