Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or Education. One year above high school; or Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of the candidates. Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below: 1. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.
2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with all healthcare professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.
3. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development and training.
4. Ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, accomplish program goals, and adapt to changing priorities. References: VA Handbook Appendix G45, Medical Support Assistant Qualification Standard The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-05. The grade for which you may be selected is GS-07. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some physical effort such as standing, walking inside the hospital and outside the hospital during rounds which requires going to the outlying buildings walking up and down stairs sometimes in inclement weather; intermittent bending, sitting or occasionally carrying items (such as mail, records, supplies, etc.).
