Qualification Summary
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to powered support systems.
2. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel and gasoline engines.
3. Knowledge of the operation of emergency generator power systems.
4. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
5. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides.
6. Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, and electrical meters to include special tools such as hydraulic knock-out tools, hammers, drills, valve spring compressors, and micrometers.
7. Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems; and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, both diesel and gasoliine.
8. Skill in troubleshooting complex situations related to electrical power generators.
9. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others.
10. Knowledge of security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and policy statements.
11. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements.
12. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures.
13. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security.
14. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
15. Knowledge and skill in operation of various vehicles. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
