Yesterday was Poet Harivanshrai Bachchan’s death anniversary. Late Harivanshrai Bachchan was one of my favorite actors Amitabh Bachchan’s father. That is not the only reason, I revere him. I have read the words of this Padma Bhushan Awardee and a proponent of the romantic upsurge, during my school days.
I particularly loved Dhoolimay nabh kya isise bandh doon main naao tat par… (It means the entire sky is filled with a cloud of dust. But, do I have to tie back the boat I wanted to travel?) And Ve bargad ke ped (Those banyan trees!).
I don’t consider myself fluent in Hindi as much as I am in English. That is one disadvantage of studying in an English Medium School in India. Given the situation, our teacher had explained the 2 poems in such a way that I still remember the gist of the works.
The first poem always motivates me and teaches me to fight back during my ebbs. The second one highlights the mutinous next generation, which ignores the benefits they enjoy.
