Qualification Summary
In order to qualify for this Telecommunications Specialist, GS-0391-09, position, you must meet one of the experience and/or education Options stated below. Your resume must fully support your experience and/or education in order to be found qualified. If qualifying based on education, copies of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application. Option A: You have at least one year of specialized experience performing the work of a Telecommunications Specialist. This experience includes: (1) Installing or maintaining network devices such as private branch exchanges, voice mail networks, copper and fiber distribution systems, voice and transport network peripherals, call servers, routers, switches and desktop systems; (2) Resolving questions concerning telecommunications protocols, modems, front-end processor/controller, or other interface questions; (3) Installing or providing telephone sets, modems, faxes, soft phones, and circuits needed for Time Domain Multiplex or Voice over Internet Protocol systems; and (4) Monitoring project milestones and funding from inception to completion. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in private or public sectors). Option B: You have successfully completed a master’s or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a directly related field such as electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to this position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
Option C: You have less than the full amount of specialized experience required but have more than 1 year of graduate level education with a major or subject area in one of the fields stated in option B. Therefore, you have a combination of experience and education. [To calculate your combination, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required in option A. Then determine your education as a percentage of the education required in option B. Then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of 1 year may be used to qualify. Part time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Volunteer work experience: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
