Qualification Summary
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here.
CG-9 – Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 7 level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience in the solicitation process for vendors to acquire products or services. Experience must include knowledge of contract solicitation requirements package; statements of work, industry analysis, and preparation of a government cost estimate, and proficiency in the use of a variety of computer software applications and other financial database applications.
OR
Education may be substituted for experience as follows: A master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must be related to the position being filled and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education in excess of one year and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements and may be computed by first determining the applicant’s total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant’s education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
Note: The CG-09 level position is an interim position with a lesser degree of independence and under somewhat closer supervision established to provide for a period of growth and development with a view toward full assumption of duties and responsibilities at the CG-12 grade level.
