G P Sippy’s Productions

I have already written a post on G P Sippy Sahab’s movies that he directed. Today, I am going to talk about G P Sippy’s Productions or movies that he produced. Displaced by India’s partition, G P Sippy and his family came to Bombay (Mumbai now) where they had some properties and business. Post partition, the Sippy family also received partial compensation from the Indian Government for the loss of their business and properties in Pakistan. With all the available resources, G P Sippy became a property developer in downtown Bombay. He got some money after selling the construction rights of a sea-facing building on Marine Drive and invested the same in financing his first movie, Sazaa (1951). Though the movie received only moderate success, the movie bug had already bitten him. After that, he established the Sippy Films banner and the rest is History.

Some of my favorite songs from G P Sippy’s Productions are:

Aaj kal tere mere pyar ke charche… Brahmachari (1968)

Zindagi ek safar hai suhana… Andaz (1971)

O Saathi chal… Seeta Aur Geeta (1972)

Koi haseena jab rooth jati hai toh… Sholay (1975)

Janu meri jaan… Shaan (1980)

Deewana dil bin Sajnake… Patthar Ke Phool (1991)
