Today is Composer Shivkumar Sharma’s birthday. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma began his musical career as a santoor player and then established himself as a composer. He began playing the folk instrument at the age of 13 and propagated it as a classic musical instrument, all over the world.
Shivkumar Sharma Sir composed the background music for the movie Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje (1955), under the expert eye of Composer Vasant Desai and played the tabla for R D Burman in the song Mose chal kiye jaye… Guide (1966).
He, later, musically collaborated for Bollywood with flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia as Shiv-Hari and their works were landmark compositions during the times of lost harmony and melody.
