Actor David’s Death Anniversary

It’s Actor David’s death anniversary, today. Born David Abraham Cheulkar, he was more famous as Actor David. He belonged to Mumbai’s Marathi-speaking Bene Israel Community. During 40 years of professional life, his roles performed in more than 110 movies were mostly character roles. He debuted with Naya Sansar (1941) and gave us such cherished performances like in Boot Polish (1954), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Golmaal (1979). Boot Polish (1954) got him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1955. He was Bollywood’s favorite uncle. I feel like looking at my maternal grandfather when I see this actor’s picture or video. I wish I had known him, personally. He expired much before I became a journalist. 🙁

Bollywood and Actor David’s Death Anniversary:

I could find very few songs picturized on David. In most of them, he has been a spectator, rather than the main performer. Anyways, here goes:

Ho raat milan ki… Sargam (1950)

Lapak jhapak tu aare badarva… Boot Polish (1954) David Uncle has performed this song onscreen.

Nanhe munne bachche teri mutthi mein kya hai… Boot Polish (1954) He performed this song as well, onscreen.

Kyon mujhe itni khushi de di… Anupama (1966)

Ya dil ki suno duniyawalon… Anupama (1966)

Aaha aaha aa yeh suhana safar… Suhana Safar (1970)

Mere dost tujhe tera meet Mubarak… Dharkan (1972)

Teri bindiyare… Abhiman (1973)
