Qualification Summary
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. ~AND~ To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level you must also meet one of the following requirements: Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience that required an application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Diagnosing defective hearing aids; Providing training to patients; Writing progress notes, letters, memos, summaries, etc; Experience troubleshooting and/or repairing small electronics. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ Education: You must have successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Transcripts required. ~OR~ Combination: You must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described for the GS-05 that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Your experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level you must also meet one of the following requirements: Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience that required an application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Diagnosing defective hearing aids; Providing training to patients; Writing progress notes, letters, memos, summaries, etc; Experience troubleshooting and/or repairing small electronics. Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~ Education: You must have a half a year (usually 9 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~ Combination: You must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described for the GS-06 that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
