Today is Actor Dev Anand’s death anniversary. Born Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand in 1923, Dev Sahab was not only a popular actor but also a writer-producer-director in Bollywood. He bagged several accolades in his life including Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
That he began his career as a clerk in the postal department was the news that was prevalent during the time I stepped into journalism. When I interviewed him, one of the questions I asked him was about the above. He revealed that he was a censor in the postal department and not a clerk.
Dev Sahab acted in several movies. He has also produced and directed many more. It is difficult to select some songs for a post for I love umpteen of them that have been featured on him. Thus, I have chosen some of my favorite songs from black and white movies. Maybe, sooner or later, I might share another post with songs from color movies.
