Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master’s degree in social work. (Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work at http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/organizations.aspx.) Licensure. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website at http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/T38Hybrid/HybridOccupations.htm. For grade levels above the full performance level, the candidate must be licensed or certified. Physical standards. Must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others. Social Worker Program Coordinator, GS-13
(a) Experience, Education, and Licensure: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator or manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. They may have certification or other post-master’s degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in the “How You Will Be Evaluated” section below. At least 2 years of experience in an area of specialized work practice.
(b) Assignment: GS-13 Social Worker Program Coordinator. At this grade, Social Worker Program Coordinators manage the administrative and clinical aspects of a major specialty treatment program, such as PTSD, Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SAW), Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC), etc., or a combination of programs located at one facility or multiple divisions of a facility. They have responsibility for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budget, treatment services provided, and admission criteria for the program. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position involve primarily walking, talking, use of the telephone, lifting of paperwork, utilizing a computer, and closely working with others. Strenuous physical activity is not required although the incumbent is expected to withstand pressure and stress as part of their day-to-day activities.
