Qualification Summary
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Must possess general knowledge of MWR special events programming and logistical requirements, requiring a minimum of 1 year general experience and a minimum of 1 year specific experience with special events or shows. General knowledge of maintenance, lighting/electric and sound system set up. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing, to include being able to read and follow an event site plan. The position reportsdirectly to the assigned Recreation Specialist (Special Events), who exercises direct administrative control. However, the incumbent performs daily work on own initiative on the basis of established policies/procedures. Situations not covered by policy are referred to the supervisor. Work is reviewed by spot checks in progress and from event success and results achieved. Guidelines include BUPERS Instruction 1710.1C, for Navy MWR programs, Navy Health and Safety instructions, regulations, directives, manuals, and handbooks. Also included are Recreation Department policies and procedures. While these guidelines are generally applicable and clear, the incumbent frequently must use judgment in applying the best solutions to problems. The work involves the successful logistical preparation of special event sites that accommodate from hundreds to over 10,000 patrons. Success of logistical support is essential to maximizing patron interest and satisfaction. The incumbent must consistently respond to unanticipated changes, conditions and priorities. The purpose of the work is to ensure all necessary components are present, on time, and working properly to facilitate a wide variety of indoor and outdoor events in support of the military community. The work affects the relationship between the military community, MWR, and local communities. Contacts include all facets ofMWR Department managers and staff, program providers from local and national sources, patrons and support agencies on base. Contacts are for the purpose of exchanging information and planning the most efficient and successful logistics for MWR sponsored or affiliated special events. Other contacts may be to obtain supplies and services. The work involves much standing and walking. Must be able to assist with all facets of site preparation, to include constructing/setting up staging and setting up equipment. Bending, crouching, climbing, and reaching may be required to assist at times with set up. Must be able to lift to 45 pounds unassisted, and over 45 pounds with assistance. Work may be conducted in spaces are not air conditioned, or outside subject to weather conditions. Must wear personal protective equipment when required on-site. Must possess and maintain a current state driver’s license, as travel is required. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
