Top 5 Funniest Flight of the Conchords Songs

It’s business time once again.

On October 6th, New Zealand’s most famous folk parody duo is releasing a new special on HBO. In it, Brett McKenzie and Jemaine Clement return to the stage to bring classic and original tunes to an eager audience in London.

In honor of their return, I thought it appropriate to comb through their catalog of songs and highlight a few of the funniest Flight of the Conchords have brought the world.

1. “Business Time”

I feel like I have to start with what is possibly their best known song, or at least, one of the ones I’ve personally heard the most. Jemaine’s smooth and suave voice is perfect at describing a night of domestic sexy time.

This is the only song where brushing your teeth is considered foreplay. I think they also coined the term “business socks”. You can watch a live version from their 2005 HBO special here.

2. “Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros”

If you’re looking for an example of a true New Zealand gangster rap battle, look no further. In this one, Brett and Jemaine (AKA the Rhymenoceros and Hiphopopotamus, respectfully) give shout outs to tea parties, polite rhymes, and some guy named Steve.

This is another one that Flight of the Conchords played live in their previous special. If you want to see an exclusive Hiphopopotamus freestyle, check out the video here.

3. “Hurt Feelings”

Running with the Flight of the Conchords’ rap career, this one comes from the second season of their HBO show, as well as their 2009 album “I Told You I Was Freaky”.

“Hurt Feelings” makes a bold stance by claiming that “tears are for rappers”. Also making appearances are ladies wet-suits, forgotten birthdays, and unappreciated home cooked meals.

4. “The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room)”

But rapping isn’t all that Flight of the Conchords is capable of. They can also write love songs, like this one from their debut studio album that also made an appearance in the first season of their HBO show.

Standout lyrics are, “I can’t believe I’m sharing a kebab with the most beautiful girl I have ever seen with a kebab”.

If you want to see an example of Jemaine’s best moves, be sure to check out the music video here.

5. “I Told You I Was Freaky”

How freaky do you think Brett and Jemaine can get? Take your best guess, and then dial it back a bit. The freaky things that the two come up with in the title track to their 2009 album are pretty weird, no doubt. But are they freaky? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

A few examples of their freakiness include being covered in honey and money, making homemade wings out of pillow feathers, and sitting in a boat with a goat.

You can check out the music video from their show here.

Hopefully these will help tide you over until Brett and Jemaine come back for their new HBO special. You can find out more about the special here.
