Jam Band Mungion Comes to Indy’s Hi-Fi on October 1st.

Halloween is on the horizon and as we turn our thoughts to Jack O’Lanterns and black cats, let’s remember to hit a few good shows, too. Case in point, Mungion comes to town on the first of October. So head on down to fountain square and get an earful!

A Brief History

Mungion hasn’t been around long, but they have the work ethic to make up for it. The Chicago-based outfit tours like mad, all to imbed their music in the public consciousness. Since 2015, they have fostered a reputation based on their energetic live performances and stage antics. Even the festival circuit isn’t safe as they play all the major rock conventions across the nation.

Of course, most bands do find their way into the studio at some point, and Mungion is no exception. In 2016 they released their debut album, Scary Blankets. So far, critical reception has been positive and Mungion is poised to deliver more music. But until then, it’s a race from stage to stage in a quest to entertain and gain fame.

Their Sound

While one can describe their sound as a fusion of funk, prog, and jazz, let’s just call it what it is: jam. Like the psychedelic bands of the late ’60s, much of Mungion’s music comes from their stage improv. Unlike a lot of ’60s psychedelic bands, they appreciate the power and potential of the synthesizer and use it in most of their pieces.

The practical effect? Funk basslines twang beneath hazy psychedelic guitars as synths lightly comment on the main melody. The mix is eclectic, to say the least, and most of it is improvised live around a head arrangement, giving it a spontaneous quality. Which is what you want with a jam.

So, as always. The venue is the Hi-Fi, door’s at 7:30.

See you there!
