Jaikishan’s Death Anniversary

Today is Jaikishan’s Death Anniversary. I mean, Jaikishan of the Composers Shankar-Jaikishan duo. Born Jaikishan Dayabhai Panchal, he would have been almost 89 today. He was known to be proficient in playing the harmonium and trained under Sangeet Visharad Wadilalji, Prem Shankar Nayak and Vinayak Tambe. Post joining Shankar Singh, he gave several timeless and evergreen melodies with his friend. They were active in the years 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s. They are renowned to have used classical music in their compositions and the songs were resonant and lilting.
